Madinah is the city the Prophet ﷺ chose — the city of light after Makkah. Its soil holds the stories of revelation, sacrifice, and community. This guide introduces the sacred sites of Madinah and the histories that make each visit a lesson in faith.

The Prophet’s Mosque

Begin where every Ziyarat begins — Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Pray in the Rawdah, the garden between the Prophet’s ﷺ house and his minbar, described as a garden from the gardens of Paradise. Send salawat at the Prophet’s ﷺ resting place with reverence and love, and feel the tranquillity that has drawn believers here for fourteen centuries.

Mount Uhud

North of the city rises Uhud, the mountain the Prophet ﷺ said loves us and we love it. Here the Battle of Uhud was fought in 625 CE, and here lie its martyrs — including Hamza ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA), the Prophet’s beloved uncle. Stand at the martyrs’ cemetery and reflect on courage and sacrifice.

Masjid Quba

The first mosque founded in Islam, built by the Prophet ﷺ upon his arrival in Madinah. He ﷺ said that prayer in Quba carries the reward of an Umrah. Visit on a Saturday, following the Prophet’s ﷺ own practice, and pray two rak’ahs in this blessed sanctuary.

Masjid al-Qiblatain

The Mosque of the Two Qiblas — where the direction of prayer was changed from Jerusalem to Makkah. Stand in the sanctuary and recall the moment the Muslim ummah turned its face toward the Kaaba, a turning point in the life of the young community.

Jannat al-Baqi

The blessed cemetery where companions, family of the Prophet ﷺ, and righteous generations rest. Visit with reverence — make dua for the deceased and remember that every soul returns to its Lord.

Visiting With Adab

Ziyarat is worship, not tourism. Dress modestly, keep your voice low, follow your guide’s instructions, and give others space at crowded sites. The etiquette of the visitor reflects the love in the heart.
